The Green Guide for the Responsible Traveler
With support from Ah Cacao Real Chocolate we have developed this brochure with
practical advice for the responsible traveler on how to minimize one´s impact on the natural
wonders visited.  The first edition will consist of 30 thousand copies printed with soy based
inks on recycled paper.  If your business would like to sponsor another edition, please
contact us.

THE GREEN
BUILDING
DIRECTORY
The Green Building Directory
In response to all the inquiries we receive regarding how to build "green" we have put
together a
directory of experts on renewable energy, green architecture, and other relevant
topics.  Please help us keep it up to date, and let these businesses know you found them
through our website.

Good news for our American supporters.
Your donations can now be tax-deductible in the USA.  The Ocean Foundation has agreed
to be our US-based 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.  Be sure to click on the Mexiconservacion button
on
their donation page.

Big thanks to Zoo, in Playa del Carmen, and Trebol, in Puerto Aventuras, for showing the
LIVE EARTH concerts.  And apologies to our friends in Akumal and Tulum, where technical
difficulties beyond our control impeded the broadcasts at La Buena Vida and Acabar- thanks
anyway for trying!

Organic coffee, honey, amaranth, and more!
Orgacomin links indigenous organic farmers with urban consumers in the spirit of fair trade.
They have also agreed to sponsor us, so visit their website and mention Mexiconservación
whenever you make a purchase. Enjoy!
Chocolate from your own tree!
One of our major sponsors, Ah Cacao Real Chocolate now offers you the chance to adopt a
“chocolate” tree. When you adopt a tree you will partner with an organic cacao grower in
Mexico enabling him or her to give the extra care that fine flavor, criollo cacao trees
demand. In return you'll receive a package of incredible chocolate, equivalent to your
adopted tree's produce. Imagine the pleasure of enjoying and sharing your truly unique
chocolate, knowing that you are really helping the people who care for your tree.
EcoBags
On June 5 2007, World Environment Day, Mexiconservación launched its EcoBags
Campaign, seeking to reduce the use of plastic bags. For more information, click on the
picture to the left.
Monitoring in Xcalak
At the end of May, Lucy Gallagher, our Marine Projects Director, was once again invited by
the the Comisión Nacional de Areas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP), to join in the
monitoring efforts in Xcalak.
Street Signs
In April, Akumal Guide and Mexiconservación joined forces to create street signs to protect
small fauna crossing the road. In order to reduce the amount of creatures unintentionally run
over by vehicles in the Akumal area, several local community members have placed special
signs on their property, depicting a hermit crab. If you would like to sponsor an
environmental street sign and feature it on your property, please contact us.
WE'VE PRINTED THE FIRST EDITION OF THE GREEN GUIDE!  And would like to
thank the
MBRS Project,  CONANP,  Project AWARE for their support; and obviously big
thanks go out to our local sponsors as well:
Luna Maya, Vista del Mar, Selva Maya, La
Boutique,
Galeria Lamanai, Akumal Wines, Peak Gym, Tequila Tortuga, Ah Cacao, Que Onda
& La Lunita.

The formal launching of the Green Guide will be on March 10th at
Xcaret, as part of the
Mesoamerican Reef Day festivities organized by
CONANP.
BIG THANKS to all who helped with our Save the Mangrove campaign.  The President
decided not veto the ammendments to the
Ley General de Vida Silvestre that protect
mangroves, and on February 1st 2007 the ammendments were published in the
Diario Oficial,
making them, well, official.
Happy 2007!  We know we're only 4 months old, but here is our Annual Report 2006.  Its
our way of starting off on a positive note.
Our own David Nuñez has been invited to take part in the Leadership in Environment and
Development international post-graduate program, which in Mexico is offered through the
prestigious
Colegio de Mexico.  The program  consists of six week-long sessions throughout
the year (5 in Mexico City, and one international week which will be held in Indonesia next
year).  If you would like to help David pay his way, label your
donations "LEAD".
Happy Holidays! Our holiday gift to you is this screensaver.  We hope you enjoy it, and
thank you for your support.
