| La Cigüeña Americana llega a medir 1.15 m, a pesar 2.5 kg y vive entre 10 y 20 años. Se alimenta de peces, ranas, caracoles e insectos a los cuales espera pacientemente con su boca abierta en el agua hasta que uno le pasa enfrente. Cuando esto sucede cierra e pico con uno de los reflejos más veloces jamás observados entre vertebrados. Para atraer a su presa, puede crear sombra extendiendo sus alas. Puede formar parejas de por vida, y se reproduce en colonias. Se le considera un bioindicador cuya presencia refleja la salud general del ecosistema. En México está Sujeta a Protección Especial. |

| Wood Storks grow to heights of 1.15 m, can weigh 2.5 kg and have a lifespan between 10-20 years. They feed on fish, frogs, snails, & insects by waiting patiently with their mouths open in the water, waiting for prey to swim by. When it does, the bill snaps shut in one of the fastest reflexes ever recorded among vertebrates. To attract prey, they spread their wings to create shady area. They may mate for life, and do so in colonies. It is also widely considered an indicator species whose presence reflects on the overall health of the ecosystem. In Mexico this species is Subject to Special Protection. |
