Los machos de ésta especie costera hacen ofrendas de pescados a las hembras para comenzar el cortejo, y ambos construyen un nido sobre terreno rocoso. Se alimentan principalmente de pescados,y ocasionalmente de calamares, que capturan dejándose caer de alturas de 10 a 15 metros sobre el mar. A veces se les ve robando alimento de la boca abierta del Pelicano Pardo. Cuando no están volando, frecuentemente se les ve descansando sobre la playa o en piedras que emergen del mar. |
Males of this coastal bird offer fish to females to begin courtship, and both build the nest,usually on rocky ground. They feed primarily on fish, though squid is also an option, which they catch by plunging into the ocean from 10-15 meters above. Royal Terns are also occasionally seen stealing fish out of the Brown Pelican’s mouth. When not in flight, they are often found resting on the beach, or on rocks that emerge from the sea. |
