| Esta hermosa ave verde con alas de azul y cola roja, es una de las más emblemáticas de México, y una de las más amenazadas. Aunque a nivel internacional se le considera una especie Vulnerable, en México se encuentra en Peligro de Extinción, tanto por la pérdida de su hábitat por deforestación, como por su captura para el mercado de mascotas exóticas. Prefieren los bosques y selvas entre los 600-2600 metros de altura, particularmente en barrancos, donde se alimentan de frutas y nueces. Estas aves de hasta 80 cm de longitud son muy inteligentes, altamente sociables, y forman pareja de por vida. Alcanzan la madurez alrededor de los 4 años y llegan a vivir hasta 60 años. | This beautiful green bird with blue wings and red tail is one of the most emblematic of Mexico, and one of its most threatened. Though at the international level it is listed as Vulnerable, within Mexico it is considered Endangered due to both loss of habitat to deforestation and its capture for the exotic pet trade. They prefer forests and jungles between 600-2600 meters above sea level, particularly canyons, where they feed on fruits and nuts. These birds, which can measure up to 80 cm in length, are very smart, highly sociable and form lifelong pairs. They reach maturity around 4 years of age and can live up to 60 years.
