Mexiconservación launches its Say No to Plastic Bags Campaign

Plastic bags were introduced into circulation in the 1970s and have since become the world's favorite mean to carry purchases. Almost 30 years on, it is estimated that 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed and discarded annually worldwide, with devastating consequences to the environment.
Throughout the world, plastic bags can be seen hanging from trees, drifting across streets or floating in the ocean. They also annually fill the bellies of thousands of whales, dolphins and sea turtles - many of which die after eating discarded plastic bags they mistake for food.

On June 5 2007, World Environment Day, Mexiconservación launched its Say No to Plastic Bags Campaign, suggesting environmentally friendly alternatives. For more information, click on the following image.
