Celebrating National Tree Day
During the second week of July, Mexico celebrated its National Tree Day. Mexiconservación joined in the festivities on the 12th July, by planting more than 300 trees in Xalatlaco, overlooking the fabulous Nevado de Toluca volcano with its snowcapped summit.
The reforestation took places over approximately 3 hectares where an effort was made to plant tree species native to the area such as Oaks, Cedars and Pine. Cherry, Pear, and Mexican Hawthorn fruit trees were also planted and a general clean-up of the area took place to remove all solid waste.
It was important to plant this time of the year, ie during the raining season, when 90% of the trees are likely to survive. The participants in this reforestation project were Gina Reyes, Guillermo González, Sra. Hilda Mancilla and her husband Sr. Guillermo, José, Bartolomé and Edwin, and Mexiconservación’s Rafael.
