| Son pocos los reptiles, fuera de las tortugas, que se pueden llamar lindos, pero algo tienen estas pequeñas lagartijas... Quizá sea ese sonido particular con que se llaman entre sí. O quizá sea su habilidad para caminar de cabeza en el techo, o trepar superficies lisas, como el vidrio. (Los científicos han descubierto que las únicas superficies a las que no se adhieren sus pies, son aquellas cubiertas de teflón.) Pero indudablemente el motivo por el cual frecuentemente son bienvenidos, o por lo menos tolerados, es su dieta constante de insectos domésticos. Otro detalle interesante sobre estos animales es que carecen de párpados, y deben limpiar sus ojos con su lengua. |
| Not many reptiles outside of turtles can be considered cute, but these small lizards somehow pull it off. Maybe its the unique clicking sounds the make to call to other geckos, and which sounds much like their name is pronounced. Or perhaps it's their uncanny ability to walk upside-down on ceilings, and up smooth surfaces such as glass. (Scientists have found that the only surfaces their feet don’t stick to are those covered in Teflon!) But undoubtedly the reason they are so often welcome indoors (or at least tolerated), is their steady diet of household insects. Another interesting fact about geckos is that they have no eyelids, and instead must lick their eyes clean. |
